  1. What was life like before using SolarWinds? (Include what you were using and why you decided it was time for a change) - I was blind.  Managing data on two networks, a plant and a Data network can be tricky enough, but with no eyes or warnings for what is about to happen, well lets just say its more than enough to keep you up at night.   Once i was brought on board i immediately started looking for a way to pull it all together and having past experience with Solarwinds i knew the choice was clear.  I needed Orion.
  2. Which SolarWinds product(s) saved your bacon? Currently we use NPM, SAM, NTP.  We also use the virtualizatin Manager but it wasn't a bacon saver.  NPM was the key, once we have it, and SAM to follow, we were able to get proactive.  NTP then assisted us on the internet issues we were facing with over usage and allowed me to track our weak points.
  3. Did you consider other options, and why did you choose SolarWinds? - I look ed at What's up gold, and spiceworks and others but Solarwind has a platform with associated applications that fill the needs as well as offerings such as Dameware, and WHD that were also needed.  So it was a one stop shop.  Although Open Source options exist, they are no where near the quality or detailed enough for the needs of this growing organization.
  4. How has life been since you've rolled out SolarWinds in your environment?  Well i am sure i am still sleep deprived but i feel better, i have instant notice of outages, and can be proactive with items isee creeping our of spec.  SolarWinds has enable our IT department to be a value added resource vs. just a cost center.
