It is a complete distortion of the truth. There is no need to change the syslog facility. LEM's connectors do have some defaults defined for convenience, but it is not a must to use the defaults. In fact, LEM can discover nodes hitting any facility, not just the default and LEM will automatically enable the appropriate connectors adjusted to the configured facilities.
