Thank you for your replies gentlemen. To paint some more of the picture for you, the company I am working at now is looking for a monitoring solution that might be scalable to different size customers with different needs and I am aware that NPM or SAM may do the job depending on the different customers installed infrastructure. I am leaning toward suggesting SAM as some level of Citrix, VMware and Hyper-v monitoring and reporting are now showing up as big ticket items.
It seems unlikely that we would have an installation of both SAM and NPM where there may only be a handful of cisco gear for example. Unless it’s a larger customer.
Still, I am poring over doco of both products (and comparing with others) to have a matrix to present to the team. So back to one of my first questions, is there a list/comparison of features? I’ll be setting up an Eval of SAM in the next couple of days and see what it can do for me. NPM I am already very familiar with. Thank you aLTeReGo, those things you highlight that Sam does NOT have, tells me a lot.
I checked the online demo of SAM but the footer text suggests there is a complete bundle of Solarwinds products installed and it is not immediately obvious which reporting is really coming out of which product.
