This can be accomplished today by placing the components that make up the application into a group. From this group you can configure how you would like status to be calculated. This allows ultimate in flexibility in how and where you'd like statuses to be calculated for a each individual application or across multiple applications for distributed business services. You can even include non-application elements into the group calculation such as hardware health, network interfaces, node status, etc.. This provides both a visual status within the UI that can also be used in Network Atlas Maps, as well as alerting.
