There are a few different ways to identify the cause of the "Unknown" status. The first is in the Application Details resource as seen below.
The next method would be the at a glance view of all component statuses you can see from expanding the branches of the AppInsight application under the All Application resource
Lastly, you can see the a flat list of components and their status by editing the monitored AppInsight application
