I agree on all points- however as we have been migrating networks from IP spreadsheet to IPAM we have found that after the initial import and subsequent scans, that reports on any subnets or ip addresses that do not meet our criteria help us to scale without extras effort. With > 10k addresses we are not a large network but rely on reports like hostname <> node alias (what is our planned hostname) or IP used but no comments, etc.
Add in other modules and reporting on switchport used but no description or vise versa and add all of these into a big weekly report to keep on top of it all.
