I must say I found both posts from jgherbert& especially conversation in there about IPAM very useful, because IP address and DNS, DHCP centralized is a frequent topic last couple of months.
The thought about "DDI" tool that automates/configure DHCP and DNS servrices and if we should trust to "local admins" vs. "software" is very interesting. I must say that I've typically heard from many people they would like to run ISC & BIND and use their stability and scalability features, but they don't want to mess with error-prone manual changes of linux config files or beacuse these folks don't know how to configure it properly since they've never used it before. Well, I know you may thing that these people should understand the technology and configuration before they would let some software to configure it instead of them.
I'm also kind of old-school when trying to learn how things works before I'd use them, but the true is that sometimes "there is no time" and people would like to just use the benefit of some technology without a deep understanding of it.
what's your opinion on this?
